- Dora Kelly Lewis and her husband, Lawrence Lewis Jr., were prolific correspondents even before they married in 1883. In this particular letter, Dora, writing from Atlantic City, describes the previous day's bad weather and her first "ocean bath." She goes on vent her resentment over a group of uptight beach goers who called on her to swim closer to shore by yelling "come in little girl."
